Gather Your Tools: Things You Need to Wax Eyebrows at Home

First and foremost, you need to get your hands on a few things.

  1. Eyebrow Pencil- Keep an eyebrow pencil handy to mark out the desired shape of your eyebrows before you start waxing.
  2. Hard wax- Hard wax is a better and safer option for any facial hair including eyebrows. This won’t stick to your skin, unlike soft wax, grabs onto only your eyebrow and takes the strays out effectively.
  3. Pre and post-eyebrow wax care- Make pre and post-wax care your BFFs when you are waxing your eyebrows. Your facial skin is very thin and delicate, it needs proper care before and after eyebrow waxing.
  4. Wax warmer- The temperature and consistency of your wax are very crucial when you are waxing your face. With a wax warmer you can achieve the perfect texture and temperature of wax so that you don’t burn yourself.
  5. Spatulas- Keep a couple of spatulas handy to apply the wax in perfect angles to your lower and upper brow bone
  6. Precision Tweezers- Perfect for fine-tuning and shaping after waxing.
  7. Magnifying Mirror- A magnifying mirror helps you focus on the tiny eyebrow hair that are easy to miss.

But if you want an all-in-one solution for your eyebrow waxing needs? The Tress Wellness Waxing Kit has got you covered. So, now let’s get started with the process!

A step-by-step guide to eyebrow waxing

Ready with all your equipment? Let’s go!

Step 1- Cleanse Your Skin

Cleanse your face with a face cleanser, and give extra priority to your eyebrows. Remove any eye makeup thoroughly to get your pores clean. Pat your skin dry and apply the pre-waxing spray.

Step 2-Brush, Outline and Work in Sections

Brush out your eyebrows so that you know what you are working with.

Take an eyebrow pencil and outline the shape that you want. This gives you a specific area to work with. This also reduces the chances of waxing off excess eyebrow hair.

Tress tip for eyebrow waxing: Vaseline or coconut oil prevents the wax from sticking to the hair you want to keep.

Step 3- Warm up the Wax

Warm up your wax to a gooey, honey-like consistency. 150 degrees Fahrenheit is the perfect temperature.

Step 4- Apply Your Wax in Sections

Scoop up the wax and apply it around the outline. Start with your lower brow bone and apply in the direction of the hair growth.

Step 5- Pull Your Wax Off

Pull out the wax in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Repeat the process on the upper-brow bone.

Step 6- Apply Your Post-Waxing Spray

Take a small cotton pad, and do a couple of sprays of the Tress Wellness post-waxing spray on it. Now rub the cotton pad across the area that you waxed. This cleans up the excess wax from your eyebrows and calms your skin down.

Don’t Break Out: Eyebrow Waxing Tips for Sensitive Skin

After achieving the perfect arch with at-home eyebrow waxing, it's crucial that you prioritize your post-wax skincare routine.

Gentle Cleansing Routine

Ensure your post-wax skincare routine includes a gentle cleanser. Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser to clean the waxed area, removing any residue without irritating your sensitive skin.

Moisturize with Care

Hydrate your brows area post eyebrow waxing with a soothing, fragrance-free moisturizer post-waxing. Opt for a lightweight formula to avoid clogging pores.

Avoid Sun Exposure

Shield your freshly waxed brows from direct sunlight for at least 24 hours. Sun exposure can increase sensitivity and lead to irritation. Consider wearing a hat or using sunscreen to protect your brows when stepping outside after an eyebrow wax.

Skip Harsh Skincare Products

Steer clear of harsh skincare products, especially those containing retinoids or acids, for a few days after eyebrow waxing. These ingredients can be too abrasive for sensitive, waxed skin and may lead to breakouts and redness.

Retinoids (Retinol, Tretinoin)

Known for their skin-renewing properties, retinoids can be too intense for freshly waxed skin. These compounds may heighten sensitivity, leading to redness and potential peeling. Consider holding off on using retinoid-containing products around your eyebrows for a few days after eyebrow waxing.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs)

AHAs (e.g., glycolic acid) and BHAs (e.g., salicylic acid) are potent exfoliants, making them a go-to for skincare enthusiasts. However, post-waxing, these acids can be overly harsh, exacerbating sensitivity and potentially causing irritation. Opt for milder alternatives after eyebrow waxing.

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

While Vitamin C is celebrated for its brightening properties, high concentrations of ascorbic acid may be too intense for freshly waxed skin. Until your skin fully heals, choose gentler Vitamin C formulations to maintain a comfortable post-eyebrow waxing glow.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Often used to combat acne, benzoyl peroxide can be aggressive on sensitive skin, especially after an eyebrow wax. Avoid this ingredient for a few days to prevent unnecessary irritation and potential dryness.

Fragrances and Harsh Chemicals:

Fragrances and certain harsh chemicals found in skincare products can be harsh on your eyebrow region after you wax eyebrows. Opt for fragrance-free or hypoallergenic formulations to reduce the risk of irritation and maintain a comfortable post-waxing experience.

Alcohol-Based Products:

Alcohol-based toners or astringents may cause a stinging sensation and dryness, particularly on freshly waxed eyebrows. Choose alcohol-free alternatives to maintain hydration and avoid unnecessary discomfort and irritation after you wax your eyebrows.

Hands Off Policy

via GIPHY

Resist the temptation to touch or scratch the waxed area. Your brows are more susceptible to bacteria after eyebrow waxing and touching may lead to infections or breakouts. Maintain a hands-off policy for a couple of days after eyebrow waxing.

Stay Makeup-Free Initially

Give your brows a makeup break for the first 24 hours post-eyebrow waxing. Makeup may contain chemicals that can irritate your freshly waxed skin. Allow your brows to breathe and recover before applying any cosmetic products after an eyebrow wax.

Avoid Hot Baths and Saunas

Steer clear of hot baths, saunas, or steam rooms for the initial 48 hours. Exposure to excessive heat can open pores and increase the risk of irritation. Opt for cooler showers to protect your skin after waxing your eyebrows.

Take Care of Your Skin Barrier

Waxing does not strip your skin of its barrier, so the chances of breaking out with waxing are lesser. But in any case after your eyebrow waxing, you should incorporate calming ingredients like cica and aloe vera into your skincare routine. A good ceramide-based moisturizer also goes a long way in protecting your skin’s barrier.
